Application Packager (Permanent)
Glasgow based Services company looking for experienced Application Packagers to work within the Glasgow Packaging facility and on customer sites where necessary.
Experience essential in repackaging and automating software installations for a range of Windows desktop software using software packaging technologies such as Wise Package studio, Installshield and software virtualisation techniques.
Additional skills as follows:
•Expertise in packaging, configuring and testing Windows desktop software for mass delivery in a locked-down, multi-user environment.
•Good working knowledge of Windows Installer technology and MSI databases.
•Good logical diagnostic skills; ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues such as file and registry-related application problems on multiple Windows OS versions.
•Self-motivated, quick learner, able to work unsupervised and also to contribute as an effective member of the team, additional capability of mentoring Junior team members.
•Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work and communicate effectively with internal staff and customers.
•Good documentation skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation of packages and packaging projects.
•Knowledge of Scripting languages such as VBScript, or batch Scripting to automate tasks within a Microsoft Windows environment.
•Effective maintenance of local documentation including standard operating procedures, best practices, and methodologies for application packaging
•To develop and maintain skills in Microsoft Windows, OS deployment and software packaging technologies, including assessing how they may be deployed into existing services or developed into new ones.
•Experience of all software Virtualisation and server based computing packaging (eg Citrix, Xenapp, Thinapp, App-V and Med-V).
•Experience of application compatability, remediation and best practice.
•MCSE helpful but not essential
•Experience of Desktop Virtualisation helpful
